Bhutan is a landlocked country. It is about 47,000 kilometres – roughly the size of Switzerland. It is located between Tibet in the north, Indian states of West Bengal and Assam in the south, and Arunachal Pradesh in the east. Bhutan is a land of soaring snowcapped peaks, alpine meadows, and densely forested hills and ravines abounding in exotic flora and fauna. From May to August, hills are covered with an awesome variety of flowers, decorated with waterfalls and streams gushing in wild abandon. It was recognized as a top green destination in the world in 2018. Though a small country, it is a land rich in culture and heritage. Bhutan has developed a unique culture that is immersed in religion and is maintained even to this day. It has ancient religious monuments which take you back in time. People & Religion: Buddhism is recognized at the official religion in Bhutan. Three-fourth of the country's population follows Vajrayana Buddhism. Other religions are followed in the minority such as Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, and Bon. There is a restriction on the construction of non-Buddhist religious structures in the country.
What to Wear: When visiting Bhutan, wear comfortable casual clothes. Also, keep sturdy footwear with a good grip as you will be travelling through rugged country. Carry some warm clothing as some areas of Bhutan at higher altitudes can get cold.
